The uniqueness of the Lawn Brick lies in its use of recycled rubber powder derived from waste rubber. This not only reduces costs but also promotes sustainability. Unlike traditional turf bricks, the concave-convex splicing structure of the Lawn Brick eliminates the need for joint filling during installation, ensuring a seamless and weed-free lawn. Additionally, the rubber material effectively locks moisture in the soil while allowing for air permeability, resulting in optimal soil moisture and improved lawn maintenance. The versatility of the design extends its application beyond lawns to outdoor parking lot floors, providing a simple and efficient laying process.
The Lawn Brick can be customized into various shapes, each offering unique visual effects through different jointing methods. This design flexibility allows for the creation of diverse and visually appealing outdoor spaces. The manufacturing process of the Lawn Brick involves edge and surface treatments to ensure its durability and structural strength.
Technical specifications of the Lawn Brick include dimensions of 300mm*300mm*50mm, with an integrated molding process using injection moulds. The design team, consisting of Shi Xiaomin, Qiu Liwei, Jiang Lei, Shao Jian, Ye Qun, and Wu Jiaqiang, collaborated to overcome the challenge of weed breeding between the joints of traditional lawn bricks. Through extensive experimentation and multiple design iterations, the concave-convex splicing structure was identified as the optimal solution.
The Lawn Brick offers a user-friendly experience, with a flat and smooth surface achieved by laying and overlapping the front and back sides of the bricks. Its versatility allows for customization based on specific environmental requirements and usage functions. The project was completed in October 2018 and was exhibited at the library of Wenzhou Vocational & Technical College.
The design of the Lawn Brick was driven by the need to address the issue of weed propagation in outdoor turf bricks. Traditional wave-shaped bricks, grass-planting bricks, and grids commonly used in public facilities lack visual diversity. The Lawn Brick aims to enrich the user experience by exploring new design possibilities for parking lot lawns and square landscaping.
The Lawn Brick has received recognition for its innovative design and practicality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and technical characteristics to contribute to a better world.
